.comEver since you probably got over the internet, you have seen different Top level domains (TLD) emerging. It all started with .COM then .COR, .NET, .ORG, .EDU .TV and then region specifics like .in, .ru, .fr, etc  and now even .xxx is in the talks.

It all began on March 15, 1985, a Massachusetts computer systems firm registered the first .com Internet domain name. It was  “Symbolics.com” and it fueled the .COM domains, the TLD that now makes up 70% of the web.

Today, exactly 25 years later, life B.C – Before .Com must be really strange.

wordpress Wordpress has been down for Over an hour taking down approximately 9.2 Million blogs, yes that’s not the readers but the number of blogs.

TechCrunch, which had recently moved on to Wordpress’s cloud along with GigaOm, and other popular blogs are all equally impacted.

The top chip designers had been in battlegrounds since decades. Finally, Intel and AMD on Thursday said they are willing to settle all the legal disputes including antitrust litigation, for $1.25 billion.

The moment of joy was expressed by AMD CEO Dirk Meyer. He  said the settlement leads both companies will bring a  “new era”  in the chip industry.

The two companies also sealed a five-year cross license deal and said they would give up any claims of breach from their previous license agreement.

Yahoo’s CEO Carol Bartz has not bought harmony to the company. Many Yahoo investors are losing interest and hopes over the brand which was once a word that meant Joy and excitement.

Her credibility has been in question since a while. Investors were amazed when she quoted Yahoo was never a search company.

Most of Internet phone unit is sold for $2.75 billion to a group of private investors, including Netscape founder’s new venture capital firm.
eBay announced a deal Tuesday to sell its Skype online calling service to a group of private investors, led by the Silicon Valley private equity firm Silver Lake Partners.

UPDATE- PirateBay is back, up and running from a new Service Provider. But for how long — Till August 27th ? NO – Why Pirate Bay Won’t R.I.P. Not atleast Till Next Century

After the years of Lawsuits held against the Piracy Giant, today Swedish district court has ordered the Internet service provider(ISP) that used to power PirateBay, to stop servicing The Pirate Bay immediately or the ISP could face heavy fines of 500,000 Kroner ($70,600 US) a day. The Pirate Bay’s ISP had no choice but to comply and disconnect the website from the Internet.

Over the recent conflicts rising between Google and Apple, Schmidt, Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, has finally resigned from the Apple Board.
