The source of high profile attack on Google [Aurora] has been tracked down to the source, a Hacker from China. The US authorities have traced the person who had written the code to make it possible.
Reportedly, the master-mind is a freelance security consultant which has ties with both Chinese government and military. What this means is, Chinese government had access to his work. The man claimed that “he would rather not have uniformed guys looking over his shoulder, but there is no way anyone of his skill level can get away from that kind of thing”.
Repeatedly, Chinese government was denying involvement in the hacking case, but the latest upcoming makes it almost impossible to deny the fact.
The security consultant wrote a code that exploited loophole in IE6 and had posted bits of his code to a hacking forum as a work in progress. But he may not be the person who can be held responsible and he didn’t himself execute it.
The hack was rather launched from one of the computers at Shanghai Jiaotong University and Lanxiang Vocational School. The SJU employs alot of former government cybersecurity experts. However, both institutions have denied involvements.
I just wonder what was the actual consent behind these attacks? Why has been China Hub of hackers and Hacking as a service? Is it all about beating the censorship of Great Firewall of China?
