[How to] Google Navigation on Android G1

With Motorola Droid came the world’s most advanced Navigation GPS – Google Maps Navigation. And now it’s hacked to be installed on other Android Devices : G1

Google Maps Navigation will be part of Android 2.0, and Android 2.0 is expected to come to most—if not all—Android handsets on the market eventually. But this hack (requires a rooted phone) makes it possible now.

Pre-requiste: Download here, Make sure you have CyanogenMod 4.2.3.1

Here’s How to do it:

Step 1. Unzip the downloaded file and Run Part 1.bat. When prompted to press any key, do so; the phone will reboot

Step 2. When phone is rebooted, run Part 2.bat and again as before, When prompted to press any key, the installation process is done.
Step 3. Enable GPS, if not already and then Open Maps and press OK.
Step 4. Press Menu >  Press Directions > Enter an end point > Click Go
Step 5.  Just under “Show on map”, click Navigate. When prompted to install the voice codec, do so.

And it’s there up and running for free: One of the best turn-by-turn navigation on Android

    are you supposed to run part bat 1 on the computer while the phone os mounted or download it to the phone?

  • Bat files run on PC only, so you have to run it on your windows. After running it, you will be prompted "press any key" do so. Hope that helps. Sorry for late reply though, I nearly missed it.
