I do this allot (netbook/PC/Server/Wifes Laptop) from time to time, and a full format dosent matter. I am not so paranoid that it has to be a full format, and often copying the files to the disk is slow enough (even with sata and a quad core, which I have). Just my 2 cents you can put it as:
“format fs=fat32 quick”
