Nobel Peace Prize to Linux Architect?
Sunday, November 22nd, 2009 |  #Tags: ,

Nobel Peace Prize  is given out to contributors who worked for the betterment of the society by bringing more harmony. Last time U.S Nobel Peace prize went into the hands of Barack Obama. This time, probability of a new nominee is rising: Linus Torvalds.

It wouldn`t be incorrect to quote that Linux has brought peace among the people round the glob. Linux has, in a way, done a lot of good for the world. The Credit goes to Linus Torvalds, the father of the Linux.

As per Lofstrom:

“Linux is one of the largest cooperative international efforts ever undertaken, It inspired Ubuntu, One Laptop Per Child, and many other global projects. Linux conquered the supercomputer space, the server space, the embedded computer space – by peaceful means! Linux helped sequence the human genome, helps protect the world computer infrastructure from viral attack, and is now the pathway for millions to learn computer programming and participate in new international efforts.”

This may sound a bit odd to the outside world, but Indeed Open Source is bringing people from around the world  together: people from all over the world collaborate on the Linux development. In fact, the success of the Linux kernel is partly responsible for the of open source software.

Linus Torvalds has contributed a large part of it. He has been one of the key contributors the to the community. He is now Chief architect of the Linux kernel and inspirer of Open source world. It his his work that today we get great and free software, and open source stuff that is ready to modified on will.

I believe he’s as deserving candidate as Obama or anyone else. After all Peace and harmony starts with a Free world.

What do you think?

No mention of Richard Stallman at all? He's the one who essentially started the entire Free Software (pre-"Open Source") movement. The credit should be given to him.

The problem is Linux is already a success -- launched, with accomplishments.

    He'll never get it.

Mother Theresa had accomplishments too. I know your comment was a sarcastic shot at Obama, but really what you're saying doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

What does "Last time U.S Nobel Peace prize went into the hands of Barack Obama." mean? The Nobel peace prize isnt from the US, Nobel was Swedish. If you mean someone from the US Linus is Finnish.
