At this year’s Google I/O, Google previewed super cool over-the-air app installation which is scheduled for the next version of Android: Gingerbread. But the good news is you can get it now, unofficailly.

AppBrain is a thirdparty Android MarketPlace which lets you install all the apps over the air from your PC, Mac via Web without touching the phone. All you have to do is install the AppBrain marketplace. (Most Android MarketPlace titles are available on this App store as well).

Apart from what is already said, AppBrain can synchronize a list of your installed apps with a list of the apps you want on the web and then download the new items on the fly.

Chrome OS to get Native Applications [Chromoting]

Last year Google showcased how Google’s Chrome OS moves all apps and data into a web browser, rather than running any Native apps.

As we know, Chrome OS is essentially Google’s Chrome web browser running atop a Goobuntu flavor of Linux (Ubuntu). It will not run local applications other than the browser itself. Google I/O, One of the biggest developer’s conference from Google kickstarts wednesday, 19th May.

Enthusiasts are speculating announcements Google will make this season to heat up the market. To summarize, we expect to see next version of Android with Adobe Flash support, and a new set-top box for your TV plus few new things with Google Apps.

Android MarketPlace Hits 50,000 Apps

As per the latest reports from AndroLib, the Android Market has surpassed the 50,000 app mark, demonstrating the rapid growth of the Andorid operating system over the last few months.

The Unofficial App tracking website, AndroLib, reports that there are a total of 50,031 approved apps currently available in the market.

From the Last official statement from Google, Android Market had 38,000 apps few weeks back, which means 12,000+ applications were added over roughly 15-20 days.

On the contrary, Apple’s iPhone App Store officially hosts 185,000+ apps. No doubt, the difference is still huge in number as well as quality. I had been looking around for a Reliable app that could enable me to Stream all my video collection on the iPhone from PC/Mac.

I ended up trying a number of applications like TVersity, certain webapps, and certain paid apps but, none of them gives you the features I found in addictive app: Air Video

Google has just launched Google Apps Marketplace during it’s annual event ”Campfire One” in Mountain View. The App MarketPlace is a new app store for business.

The Apps MarketPlace is essentially an app store integrated within Google Apps that would allow third-party developers to sell software directly to Google’s business consumers. The concept is very similar to Apple’s App Store difference being it target corporate business customers.

Fring has been out there for couple of years and they have proved to us that they know how to evolve. The started as small company and launched first VOIP service on the symbian platform. Fromt then they have captured almost every mobile vendor in the world.

The service works with a ton of different networks, including Skype, AIM, MSN Messenger and Twitter. Plus, you can make calls to landlines from your SkypeOut/SkypeIn account and place voice calls to your Skype and Fring contacts.

The current launch brings two-way Video chat over 3G and WiFi for Nokia. But it is limited to one side VIEW on iPhone and iPod touch for callers over Skype or Fring service. However, there is a limitation, you can interact via voice to the person shown on your display, but you cannot broadcast your video.

What is the feature most missed on the iPhone? Of course it is the MultiTasking.

Apple never emphasized on multitasking (running several apps simultaneously) just because iPhone 2G & 3G have limited amount of RAM. Thanks to Jailbreaking, there is a solution round the corner for more than year: its called Backgrounder. Backgrounder let’s you run multiple apps in the background. This app is bit unreliable coz as soon as iPhone runs out of RAM, it will close the application in background abruptly.

This is more successful on iPhone 3GS since it has more RAM.

Here is the future of Cloud Computing – Run Windows 7 on iPhone, run as a thin client.

Wyse released PocketCloud iPhone application that features a RDP 6 client (Windows 7 compatible) for iPhone/iPod Touch with one very unique Feature- VMware View 3.1 support, making it a perfect Thin-OS.

Till this app was released, I used iRdesktop for RDP, which is a capable and free RDP client that has done everything one needs. The problem with most RDP clients is that the mouse is very hard and cumbersome to use. Common iPhone gestures (pinch to zoom, for instance) make it a bit easier to navigate, but that alone makes it only barely useable.

Probably, iPhone’s original Home Screen (Lock screen) is very boring and non-intuitive. There are couple of apps that make the experience much richer by giving you option to add SMS preview, Calendar events, Weather, etc, but none of them is as perfect as the one we are about to discuss now. Though IntelliScreen does a fairly good job, it’s a single screen widget. The new app is called SmartScreen, developed by one of the iPhone DevTeam members, to be released under the brand MediaPhone.

Well, Android already has a Augmented Reality App [Layar] officially, and now for the first time we got to see Augmented reality on iPhone though unofficially on Jailbroken iPhones only.

The App is called SplatCam and is more about fun rather than utility at this point of time. All it does is is adds a new dimension to your Real-time video (similar to Cycorder video).

The live video Feed from the iPhone’s camera can be extended to do some fun stuff. You can shoot tomatoes, eggs or spitwadss at anything in the field of view. It is all done in real time. And yes supported for 3.x. I tried on 3GS, it works, not sure if it’s compatible with others.

iPhone SDK doesn’t support Java for the development code. Neither does Java runs on iPhone (though you can Compile, Run, Install Java apps on iPhone by jailbreaking). But there is just one legal way of developing applications in Java for the iPhone: using PrimeFaces.

PrimeFaces is an Open Source library for JSF which lets you create a rich set of components and provide non-rendering JSF extensions to ease development on various webapps. Though not intended for iPhone alone, it serves iPohne webapps quiet efficiently.

It took nearly two weeks for Apple to review, Facebook’s totally revamped 3.0 application is finally live on the App Store. You can download it now here.

Note: The store currently shows that the app is version 2.5, but if you click the Download button anyway you’ll get the new version. It’s Apple’s caching issue, ignore that.

What’s New ?

The new update completely upgrades the Facebook iPhone app, still the #1 most popular application in the iTunes store. This upgrade was absolutely essential. While Facebook 2.5 allowed you to browse your friends, update your status, check your notifications, and use Facebook Chat, that’s really all it could do.

The new application brings a big list of new features, making it what may be the most useful app on the App Store.

iPhone App that made $20k in a Week – Unit Conversion $0.99 App

For developers and for Companies interested in developing iPhone apps, it’s a good news. In the first two weeks the iPhone Unit conversion app has been downloaded around 40,000 times.

Since the price of the application is $0.99, it turns out the app has pulled at least $39,600 so far, or just under 3,000 dollars per day, and it’s still growing. It reached the #2 top paid app spot in the US App Store, jumping from about a 1,000 downloads on 13th of August to over 6,000 daily downloads on August 25th.

iPhone Apps platform is very mature. Despite this, we haven’t seen a good photo editing software on the platform that could match Photoshop atleast the basic features. Though, if you can choose one app, try new PhotoForge, its like Photoshop in your pocket, just enough tools to make some crucial editing on the fly. It is a well put together and professional image manipulation and painting app. It has tools and functionality I haven’t seen on a mobile platform before.

PhotoForge is a highly optimized editing and painting application designed for the iPhone and iPod touch. Ever since the iPhone came out, I’ve been dreaming of a mobile Photoshop app. This hasn’t happened yet, but GhostBird Software has managed to get closer than anyone else with PhotoForge. Google Apps to support OpenID login

With things getting more Open, google has opened the doors to SSO. Now, It is about to announce OpenID log-in for enterprise users via Apps productivity suite.

Google has already adopted the authentication standard whereby a single login can be used to access a variety of sites.

On Wednesday, Google’s Eric Sachs wrote on an OpenID board that two blog posts would appear “in the upcoming weeks”, detailing the news. “We would appreciate this not being circulated beyond the board until it is public,” he wrote on the publicly published messageboard.

“This new support required that we work with the community to define some extensions to the OpenID discovery process,” Sachs wrote. “While those discussions have been going on in the community the last few months, those extensions are not yet formalized and probably won’t be until they are proven in production environments. GMail, Google Docs, Talk, Calendar are Mature, No Longer a BETA

Google Apps have all Matured. No longer are Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, and Google Talk carrying the beta tag. they are all now full-fledged members of the Google products Family

In truth, it’s hard to tell exactly what technical improvements/enhancements may have prompted the decision to lift the products out of beta. Google said, removal of the beta status means that those products have all reached unspecified internal metrics in terms of reliability and usability.

GMail was in beta for 5 years. And paying enterprise customers will still be provided with a 99.9 percent service-level agreement now that the products are out of beta. Now we could expect five nines industry standard for GMail.

The move is seen as a way to attract large businesses to Google Apps, its suite of messaging and productivity applications.

Apple’s App Store is a running success. Few months back, It announced the numbers. A total of Billion downloads were downloaded in less than a year. Undoubtedly, Apple had set a world record for fastest growing popularity of applciations on Mobile platform.
