I passed out of grad college as an electronics engineer with little background of programming and luckily enough my first job involved Java/j2ee. The need of the hour was to learn it. It was hard for a month, everything after that was an love affair.

Since those old days, I simply couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that Microsoft’s Windows-based servers still exist in the market having a share as large as 20% where Linux was 65+%. Sooner I realized, easier it became to grasp that I wasn’t the only one troubled with this problem.

Java may not still be the best Web (internet) programming language but there’s always win of Open standards like PHP because of the ease of programming. But, Java still is the weapon of choice in the Enterprise Business market.

With 160,000 Android phones activated every day, Android is becoming fastest growing smartphone, ever!

Yesterday at Motorola Droid X release with Verizon, Eric Schmidt announced Launch of Android froyo and industry adoption of Android as high as 2 phones per second.

Android Froyo brings lots of new goodies, best one being the speed improvements with Android Dalvik JIT.

Android gets Intel Atom Port

The popular mobile OS, Android, has been ported to support Intel Atom processors.

Currently, the Android OS is exclusively available for ARM based architecture, however, Since it’s open source, we’ve seen few x86 ports for Netbooks. One of them was Acer, who ported Android to netbooks based on Atom microprocessors last year.

Intel now has done it officially(porting from ARM RISC to x86), and already has Android running on Atom-based smartphones.

Why Porting My Intel Matters? The reason is obvious, Intel would write the best optimizations for Android source code so that it can leverage the true power of x86 architecture. All the Special instruction sets of x86 would be used so as to make Android run even better.

“Father of Java” Resigns from Sun/Oracle

This would, perhaps, be the second most shocking/sad news after the resignation of Jonathan (former Sun CEO). I’m sad and upset after hearing the confirmed news that James Gosling will be leaving Sun/Oracle.

NotionInk ADAM: Android Tablet vs. iPad

Tablets are everywhere, and everyday there’s a new one that aims on targeting the iPad. Last time we saw WePad, Android based Tablet doing exactly that. But something that was missed from several eyes was Notion Ink’s Adam, who demoed final version of the Android tablet prior to Mobile World Congress 2010 (MWC). In the video young cofounder Rohan Shravan shows us that Apple is not the only one who knows about hardware innovation.

The Video Demonstrates some great ideas that came-up from a young developer while he was tired of hearing to pre-iPad rumors. Apart from being better at hardware config, this device is much more efficient on the battery. Beyond that, it’s trans-reflective LCD works outdoors with a charm in monochromatic-mode.
