Who says app developers are limiting innovation to only two mobile platforms? Platform may or may not be capable enough, but app developers find their way to creating amazing apps.

ThinkContacts is an app for the Nokia N900’s Maemo platform, which is able to dial a .. Read Further »

Google Maps has the user’s no.1 choice when it comes to mapping a location or finding directions. Sure their StreetView is awesome, but the latest one from Microsoft Research called Street Slide makes StreetView look inferior, under-utilizied — They missed out all the Panoramas.

Often we navigate into streets and find it hard to recognize the Buildings with the immersive  the 360 environment. Microsoft Research wants to change that. Street Slide, a research project, aggregates all the photos from 360 .. Read Further »

Intel is giving us sneak peak into the Future by revealing the first chip that uses light aka photonics to send data. With Four lasers being used in the prototype, its able to convert light into data at about 50Gbps, something which is un-achievable using wires carrying electrical signals.

The Light Peak optical interconnect can transfer data at 10Gbits/sec in both directions, and is touted as an all-in-one replacement for USB, DisplayPort and HDMI and all others in competition. At such speeds, You can transfer a Full HD 1080p BluRay movie in a .. Read Further »

Mouse was invented decades ago as the innovative mode of input to Personal computers, since then, it has changed a little. Apart from Apple’s magic mouse, there was not enough innovation in this field.

Various multitouch and gestural interaction technologies have been explored as means to implement alternative methods to interact with a computer. Despite these advances in computing hardware technologies, the two-button computer mouse has remained the predominant means to interact with a computer.

3D TVs have been around for a while. Last year, year 2010 was declared as the emergence of 3D TVs, so far, so true.

3D TV is great as long as there are no glasses attached. Of course over time we’ll see 3D TV without glasses, but what really is the Next Big thing? It’s the holographic Displays.

If you are a star wars fan, Holographic TV is no alien to you. Images are projected into air, space and its 3D. Holographic enthusiasts have rightly named it the “Stars Wars technology”.

On a holo-.. Read Further »

With Processor fabrication getting better and better every year at the pace of Moore’s law, a new research will Leap frog the innovation.

Moore’s Law predicts that the amount of memory that can fit on a given area of silicon, for a fixed cost doubles every 12-18 months. The limit of this prediction is being tested as components get ever smaller and their computationally useful properties become less reliable.

Researchers have managed to create a transistor made from just seven atoms. When such technology is used to design computers, .. Read Further »

human brainOften we compare current computer processors with human brain, we consider human brain to be superior at certain things: It’s ability to learn, adapt and react. But how does our brain react to multitasking?

We might have adopted quad cores on the desktops, but a new study reveals that human brain is capable of processing  only two tasks at a time, something close to a HyperThreading on a single core processor.

memristorsThe researchers at HP have developed a new way to perform logic Operations, making it possible to fabricate much more advanced chips that would use memory devices in place of standard transistors. As per the research, an array of memristors (150 atoms wide) can perform both logic and storage operations.

The memristor is a device as fundamental as the resistor, inductor and capacitor, but is based on the relationship between flux and charge, rather than between voltage and charge.

Book-scanner Its only seen in the movies where Robots and Mutated heroes can flip through the books in a matter of seconds and still store all of it. But the latest research done in University of Tokyo has brought it to real life.

According to IEEE Spectrum “book flipping scanning” method that does digitizing of 200 pages per minute, according, which is their first hope to digitize Japanese manga comics.
