Apart from existing methods of Jailbreaking iOS4, Sn0wbreeze can quickly jailbreak iOS 4 on iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS (with old iBoot) and iPod Touch 2G. In order to install UltraSn0w unlock on iPhone 3G, you need to first jailbreak your iPhone.

iPhone 3g, 3GS 3.0/3.0.1 Redsn0w
iPhone 3g, 3GS 3.0/3.0.1/3.1/3.1.2/ iOS 4 GM Pwned

Apple surprised the iPhone users by silently pushing out a minor firmware upgrade.

With this update, iPhone 3G and 3GS gets baseband upgrades and none for iPhone 2G. This method works only for iPhone 2g, iPod Touch.

Note for iPhone 3G and 3GS Users: We strongly suggest that you stay away from this official upgrade until and unless the DevTeam or GeoHot releases new jailbreaking and unlocking tools for 3.1.3 firmware. Stay tuned @taranfx for updates.

GeoHot now has released blackra1n RC3 with blacksn0w which unlocks both iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS running on iPhone 3.1.2 firmware with 05.11.07 baseband (modem firmware).

This guide will help you in running fully unlocked and jailbroken iPhone 3GS with firmware 3.1 on a Windows PC.

NOTE: This guide is for those of you who are on a jailbroken iPhone 3GS firmware 3.0 or 3.0.1. If you have updated to iPhone 3.1 from iTunes but have saved your SHSH file to Cydia then you can still jailbreak but you’ll first have to downgrade your firmware back to 3.0 or 3.0.1. In other cases, you are locked out.

iPhone 3G Downgrade Baseband 05.11.07 to 04.26.08 Firmware 3.1

In response to my previous post of unlocking iPhone 3G, 2G on OS 3.1, I had few people who had broken Rule no.1 (which says that don’t upgrade to OS 3.1 from iTunes) set by Dev Team. For those, here is a solution, downgrade the Baseband.

Update: Jailbreak Unlock iPhone 3G 3GS 05.11.07 using blackra1n with blacksn0w

Pre-requisite: To downgrade your baseband from 05.11.07 to 04.26.08, you must first jailbreak your iPhone 3G running firmware 3.1 by following guide unlocking iPhone 3G, 2G on OS 3.1.

Step 1: Go to “Cydia” and Search for “Fuzzyband” and then install it.

Step 2: Start Fuzzyboard app and click on Downgrade button to start downgrading your Baseband from 05.11.07 to 04.26.08.

Earlier, I Blooged how to unlock 2G and 3G using Redsn0w, this article is for unlocking iPhone 3G with Ultrasn0w.

Before you start, you must have a jailbroken iPhone if you haven’t jailbreaked your iPhone 3G then follow our Guide Jailbreak, Activate iPhone OS 3.0 With RedSn0w. For unlocking your iPhone UltraSn0w, a soft unlock payload from iPhone Dev Team is using. UltraSn0w is a small daemon that is launched on boot. It injects the payload at boot and also whenever there is a baseband reset. Which is quiet similar to what Redsn0w did. You won’t notice anything about it other than that all Networks now work. Once you have a Jailbreaked iPhone then you can use these easy stepsto Unlock.

Why Ultrasn0w for 3G when REdsn0w unlocks iPhone 3G?

DevTeam has finally released Redsn0w, the multiplatform jailbreaking, Unlocking for iPhone 2G, and iPhone 3G. It is very easy to use. Please note that this does not apply to iPhone 3G S.

If you want to build custom firmware files with more flexibility it is suggested that you use ‘PwnageTool’ on Mac OS X.

Before you start. Checklist:
1. GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a 3G iPhone with yellowsn0w and rely on yellowsn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should NOT use redsn0w right now. Ultrasn0w (the 3G carrier unlock) is not included with this release and therefore your baseband will be locked and unable to use an operator other than the official one it was bought for. UltraSn0w will be released via APT (cydia and icy) soon. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.0 carrier unlock works with this redsn0w release.

UPDATE: Follow the new Redsn0w method.The below one was applicable till official unlock was not released by DevTeam.
After playing around for 6 hours with all possible combinations possible, I finally found what would actually unlock and activate iPhone 2G under OS 3.0 GM (the final release).

This method works for all types of upgrades to 3.0 7A341 & GM. i.e. from 2.x to 3.0, 1.1.x to 3.0 7A341 or GM

Easy Steps:

- Install iTunes 8.2

- Change date to something after “17th june”.

- Go into DFU mode.
- Restore to 2.0.2 (get it here).

- Jailbreak with Quickpwn RC3 (windows) available here

- go offline (iTunes should NOT be able to reach internet)
