The long anticipated 4G from Verizon wireless is starting to gain spotlight now. As per their plans, Intial testing and deployments will start appearing by the end of the year. Though we heard that LTE is ready for showtime but despite these statements from telecom leaders, a major challenge is still left un-answered. As we know, 4G or LTE is based on packet switched networks rather than circuit switched that used to be in older standards (3G and 2G). This industry giant leap has added benefits of more bandwidth but has raised a crucial concern about incompatibility with older circuit-switched networks. Till today we had been living in a circuit switched telecom cores connecting to ip network core as a legacy. IP was never our REAL core as far as Telecom Read further »

Verizon is expanding the horizon by increasing reach of its cloud-based services to include management for IT servers, networks and storage. The computing-as-a-service (CaaS) offering is the company’s most wide-reaching cloud-based operation to date, as Verizon is promoting it as a way to maintain servers and storage, manage network connections and have the option of using both physical and virtualized services. Taking Virtualization Up a Notch: Download this special report Cloud computing differs from traditional IT infrastructure because it treats IT more as a utility rather than as a piece of dedicated physical infrastructure that must be managed and upgraded internally. Verizon had been GURU as ISP for several years now. The have the cutting edge bandwidth to teet up most of the customer’s requirements. Verizon decided to respond to Cablevision’s new limited 101Mbps service, and, well, it’s a bit contradictory. Essentially, Verizon argues that Cablevision is trying to pump all this bandwidth through their crappy cable infrastructure, and it won’t hold up, with bandwidth hogs lowering everybody else’s speeds. Furthermore, the true speeds will be slower once users have to deal with the speeds of the servers they’re trying to access. Oh, and Read further »

I’ve been tired of “Android on X’s phone” stories for a while now, but Motorola’s Calgary shot my eyes wide open: It actually looks interesting! And it’s on Verizon. BGR says the QWERTY slider will focus on social networking—presumably in the same vein as the new Sidekick. I have a bit of doubt about that flat not-so-touch-type-y keyboard, but still, color me impressed: Futuretastic-looking hardware running Android on Verizon? As long as they don’t lock it the hell down, could Read further »

Does it really have capacity to strom away iPhone ? Given how good the Storm looks, the fact that it’s $100 less than the BlackBerry Bold (with two-year contract, of course), and comes with 8-gigs of storage versus one gig on the Bold, I don’t see why anyone would prefer the Bold unless tactile keyboards are really critical to you. Actually, the Storm does have one major drawback: no Wi-Fi. That’s close to inexcusable, especially given that the Bold does have Wi-Fi. Still, if Santa is reading this post, I certainly wouldn’t mind getting a Storm for Christmas. 8 (Stupid) Reasons To Pick The BlackBerry Storm Over The iPhone? Read further »
